Fast Advertising

Fast advertising - learn how to get advertising created and in market fast.  Learn about your options for fast advertising and how to get ads created more quickly.

Fast advertising options

  • Free listings - there are a lot of websites you can create a free listing on within a few minutes to advertise your company, product or services.

  • Search ads, also called PPC (pay-per-click). These are simple text ads so there's no time needed for producing the ad and you can do this yourself and buy online at any time. You'll have ads running within hours.

  • Social media advertising - learn about advertising on places like Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Newspaper ads

  • Cell phone ads

  • Simple online banner ads that you create using a template or service, and buy ads through a network or with remnant (left-over) space.

  • Radio ads that are "announcer read" can be created and run very quickly. These type of ads can be quite effective.

TIP:  Best Free and Low Cost Advertising - many of these are fast advertising options to consider that are also inexpensive

Tip

How to create ads faster

  • Use an ad template
    • The fastest way to create an ad is generally to use a template.  Templates are available for print ads, online ads and even TV ads. They are professionally designed "shells" that you customize by adding your logo, text and offer.
    • Top Advertising Suppliers list the companies that offer this. For online and TV ads, some companies also offer media buying services.

TIP:  if you choose to use templates, look for a coordinating or "matched set" of templates that you can use for business cards, letterhead, brochures, flyers, direct mail and print ad. Some companies even have coordinating templates for websites. Using coordinating templates will make your company or product look more professional. Large companies pay for a "visual identity" and use that throughout their marketing. You can accomplish the same effect for much less money by using templates. But since templates can be purchased and used by your competitors, there's a risk that you won't look unique. There are so many templates to choose from that if you're a local business you may be able to overcome this concern by just choosing a template look that your competitors aren't using that will differentiate your company and brand. Top Marketing Template Suppliers lists companies that offer all kinds of templates beyond advertising.

  • Another fast way to get ads done is to work with internal marketing departments for where you are paying to advertise to get them to create the ad
    • You'll need to contact the media sales person and ask for this and they'll only agree to this if you're not working with an agency or advertising freelancer.  They don't want to take away business from those people.
    • If you are buying local newspaper, radio, TV or online ads, the media sales reps can help you get the ads created quickly.  They're motivated because they are paid on commission and want you to run ads with them.
    • The ads you have created with one publication or station may not be used on another station. That's a hassle if you want to run ads on multiple stations. You'll need to work with media sales reps from different publications/stations and have multiple ads created.

  • Another fast way to get ads done is to use a full-service advertising agency
    • Agencies are used to "rush orders." They don't like to rush, but they can and will rush an ad out for a client.
    • Be sure they have media planners or can hire a sub-contractor to do this work. Full-service means they can create and buy the advertising for you.
    • How to Select and Hire an Ad Agency explains how to do this. Since your relationship with your agency is a bit like hiring an important business partner, you probably don't want to rush that to get an ad campaign out.

TIP:  you can save a lot of money in media buying if you buy "last-minute" and remnant inventory. You'll need to tell the media sales reps that you have set aside a portion of your media budget for these type of ads and they'll then contact you when they have availability. You can get some amazing deals. Just beware that you also don't end up with ads on shows or in programming that isn't appropriate for your brand reputation or doesn't effectively reach the target audience you're after.

From our experienceFrom our experience:  Some types of ads can be developed and placed very quickly and that will not tarnish your brand reputation. Other types of advertising should not be rushed to market. Advertising seen by a lot of people can make or break a brand.  For some types of ads, it's best to invest the time to do ad testing to make sure they work. This article on the Advertising Process and Timeline explains what typically is required to plan, create, test, produce and measure advertising.

Tip

What not to do if you want to create advertising fast

These types of ads take the longest time so stay away from them if you want fast advertising

  • Magazine ads in monthly publications. They have very long "lead times." You have to create the ad and then send it into the publisher months in advance for them to have time to assemble the magazine, print it and get it out to subscribers and stores.
  • Infomercials and TV ads.  You don't want to rush creating these ads (that will reflect badly on your brand) and you need time to make a thoughtful media buy since this type of advertising is so expensive.
  • Outdoor billboards.  These ads take time to create and print and for the space to open up (that's worthwhile to buy to place the ad). If you buy in a rush, you'll likely get billboard spaces that other companies don't want.
  • Fancy online banner ads with a lot of specially coded elements and customized landing pages can also take time to produce.
  • Ads in printed in yellow pages (phone books). These are created and published for a year.
