Franchise Marketing Ideas

Even though you've bought into a franchise, your personal financial success depends on how well you market your franchise business(es).

Here are franchise marketing ideas to help you attract new customers, get your existing customers to come back more frequently and tell their friends and generate more sales from your existing customers.

You may have a corporate group for your franchise that provides marketing support.  Great.  What are they doing for you?  What tools, services, templates and advice are they offering you to help you grow your business and become more profitable?  Leverage that advice and those services.  You've paid for that.  But know that the most successful franchise owners know they need to master marketing and not totally abdicate their franchise marketing to the corporate types.

As a franchisee, you've paid for a known brand.  Be sure to adhere to all the brand guidelines because that is a valuable asset you want to protect and enhance with your marketing.  Beyond that, we'd suggest you learn as much as you can about small business marketing to drive revenues for your franchise operation.

Successful franchise owners want what big companies have: Experts who find and filter the best and most actionable information on how to do marketing, along with gathering and updating information on marketing costs and suppliers.  We hope you'll find that type of support at MarketingZone.com

You don't have to do all this marketing yourself!  The best return on your time (and money) may be to find a reputable marketing freelancer or small business agency who will set things up for you and then you, or your team, can manage it.  That's like hiring a landscape firm to do the hard work to set up your sprinkler system.

These websites may be helpful for franchise owners and people considering investing in a franchise

  • AAFD.org  The American Association of Franchisees and Dealers, a San Diego-based trade group, promotes fairness between franchisers and franchise owners. Its online resources include tips on selecting and buying a franchise. Group members can also find contact information for lawyers who specialize in arbitrating and mediating franchise disputes. The site also has a directory of suppliers who offer discounts to AAFD members. There's a cost to join and membership is allowed for prospective franchisees.
  • SBA.gov  The U.S. Small Business Administration has a guide that lists issues to consider before buying a franchise, as well as scams potential buyers should watch out for. The site includes resources for franchise sellers, too, such as links about disclosure requirements.
  • FranchiseRegistry.com/registry  This site, a partnership between the SBA and FRANdata, a provider of franchise-industry information, lists dozens of franchisers that take part in an SBA program. If companies are accepted into the program, the agency reviews their contracts with franchise buyers in advance to make sure they meet certain criteria—which means faster approval for buyers seeking SBA loans.  Companies that are interested in getting on the list must pay an application fee. The site notes that a company's participation in the registry doesn't mean the SBA has endorsed the company or made a determination about its quality or profitability.
