How to work with direct mail coupon suppliers
You can send direct mail coupons yourself, or opt to include your coupon as part of a mass mailing to consumers or business customers. We list the top suppliers and note both pros and cons about working with them.
Know this: Put on your sales armor. None of these companies list prices on their websites. They all require you to call them or complete a form with all your contact information before they will respond with pricing information. It’s very high-pressure sales. All these companies are all now offering more services than printed direct mailers with coupons. They offer mobile coupons and some have email coupon mailers. They are trying to make their sites into destinations for consumers who want coupons.
Will all these coupon shoppers stay loyal to your company? Will they ever pay full-price for your products/services? Why, exactly, do you want to participate in this type of marketing?
Entertainment Publications publishes the Entertainment Book
- entertainment.com is their main website
They don’t publish their prices and require you to call or email them all your information to get their prices. They focus on working with schools and fundraising groups.
Valassis Communications is the parent company of RedPlum
They don’t publish prices and require you to share all your contact information to talk to their (high pressure) salespeople.
What they say about themselves on their website:
Redplum is taking the lead in providing consumers with a single destination for finding saving tips, deals, coupons, FREE samples, special coupon codes and innovative contests! As part of the RedPlum media network, redplum.com augments offers and coupons that consumers commonly find in their local newspapers or the RedPlum direct mail package. Our network reaches over 120 million consumer households each week across the country with great offers on products and services consumers want from national brands and local businesses! If you would like to get more information regarding advertising with RedPlum, please click through one of the links below. Your inquiry will be transferred to a sales rep in your area so please be sure to give your full contact information including postal address!”
They don’t publish the prices on their website. They have all sorts of things to download…that don’t include what the prices are. It’s a very frustrating customer experience. They force you to call them or complete a lot of required fields (give your company name, phone number, etc.) before they will reply to a simple request for “What does it cost?”
They have different franchisees in different states and cities.
This is the response we got asking for what the price was:
It is very difficult for us to provide consultative marketing solutions without some basic discovery questions about your business. Valpak offers a myriad of solutions to grow your business combining print and digital platforms. Our prices range from .02 – .05 cents per home. If you would like to grow your business – we can help!”
- moneymailer.com is their website. They also don’t publish prices and require you to contact their local state franchisee owner.
TIP: You may be better off sending direct mail postcards on your own, so your mailing stands out versus being part of a package of coupon ads from other companies.
Another option is ads in local shopper magazines
Local shopper magazines provide local advertising, coupon advertising, and online advertising that can be targeted to the customer audience in your locality.
Know this: These shopper publications are popular with people who are looking for coupons and special offers. They are often used by your existing customers who would have paid full prices. We question how effective they are at attracting customers who will be most profitable to serve long-term. You’ll be attracting people called “switchers” who buy whatever brands are on sale and aren’t loyal. Why are you going to pay to attract people like this?
